Chintown Buses

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Just wanted to say a good thing about the bus services that run between Boston’s and New York’ China towns. Both Fung Wah and Travel Pak offer $10 one way and $20 round trip express bus every hour from early morning till late evening.

Their prices are better than and their service is as good as if not better than that of Peter Pan/Greyhound. According to the Boston Globe, Peter Pan is trying to shut the Chinatown busses down. This is outrageous. I’ll be boycotting Peter Pan whenever I can.

Punjabi Dhaba

Monday, June 28th, 2004

While the food may be good at Punjabi Dhaba, the customer service leaves much to be be desired (i.e. the cooks are good but the folks at the counter aren’t). Entrees I have there are served with a side of yoghurt. When I order the same dishes as take out, no yoghurt was included. When I asked, I was told yoghurt was extra. I said I expect to get the same meal for takeout as when I order it to stay. He said the container costs money (we are talking about a tiny plastic taste sampler that holds about two tablespoons). Then he added (in what seemed like an on the spot invention) that they give the yoghurt as a freebie to encourage people to eat in. Huh?
I told him this wasn’t good customer service. He pointed to the menu which said “all meals served with rice and chutney” and I pointed to the two trays on the counter between us that had yoghurt with the same dish I ordered.

Overall an unpleasant exchange with an unfriendly cashier. The rice was soggy and sticky to boot this time around.

Advice to Punjabi Dhaba: keep the cooks and replace the counter help and store policies.
