Homeowner Beware: Get it in Writing!

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

It should be your priority as a homeowner to have “all” things in writing by anyone doing work on your home or business. I am a painting contractor in Metro Boston and just went through a small claims case with a roofing contractor. The roofing contractor I hired left one letter out of the contract and it cost me his final payment, an additional $2400 for another contractor to finish the shoddy work and attorney fees. Believe me, take my word and “get it in writing!” I lost the case in small claims for one letter of the alphabet! I do estimates all the time and have a great relationship with my clients, but for their protection and mine I have been very careful to complete each item line by line. I write this with hope that all will hear me clearly. Your contractor might be great, but for your protection request it in writing.
